Carriage Driving
No prior knowledge of working with horses is necessary as all training is done under supervision of a qualified carriage driving coach.
Lasting for 2 hours, you will be shown how to hold the reins in the coaching hand, then have some fun putting into practice what you've learned.
You'll then learn how to harness a horse, put-to and go out for a short drive.
All sessions are carried out with dual reins for safety.
1-2-1 sessions and small groups welcome

Practical Sessions
If you’re looking to move beyond theory and truly understand carriage driving, our Practical Sessions are designed with you in mind.
Over four immersive hours, you’ll gain hands-on experience in the essential skills that every carriage driver needs. This is your opportunity to step into the role of the coachman and build real confidence working with horse, harness, and vehicle—supported every step of the way.
You’ll learn how to handle the reins correctly, developing feel, balance, and communication with the horse using our simulation rein-handling apparatus. We’ll guide you through safe and effective harnessing, helping you understand not just how it’s done, but why it matters. Alongside this, you’ll gain valuable insight into general horse care and management, so you feel comfortable and capable around your horse both in and out of harness.
We’ll also introduce you to the different types of harness and their suitability for various situations, as well as how to assess whether a horse and vehicle are well-matched for the job in hand. These are the kinds of practical skills that build confidence, improve safety, and set you up for long-term success in carriage driving.
You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of vehicle maintenance and harness care, ensuring your equipment remains safe, functional, and ready for use. We also incorporate key elements of the British Driving Society Introductory Competency Assessment, giving you a valuable foundation should you wish to progress further.
Most importantly, this is a relaxed, supportive environment where you can ask questions, learn at your own pace, and gain real, practical experience—not just watch from the sidelines.

Lessons
Every day is a school day when you’re working with horses—and your carriage driving journey is no exception. Our Carriage Driving Lessons are designed to help you grow in confidence, skill, and understanding, whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your technique.
Your experience begins with an initial assessment session. This is your opportunity to drive, discuss your current ability, and share your goals and ambitions. From there, we create a personalised training programme tailored specifically to you—ensuring every lesson is relevant, progressive, and focused on what you want to achieve.
You can choose to learn with one of our experienced, well-schooled turnouts, or bring your own horse and work together as a partnership. Either way, you’ll receive supportive, one-to-one guidance that meets you at your level and helps you move forward with clarity and confidence.
Our lessons focus on developing correct rein handling, improving communication with your horse, and building safe, effective driving habits. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of how your horse responds, how to refine your aids, and how to drive with balance, accuracy, and feel. If you’re working with your own horse, we’ll also help you develop them alongside your own skills—creating a confident and capable driving partnership.
Each session is relaxed, friendly, and structured to help you learn at your own pace. You’ll be encouraged to ask questions, build your knowledge, and develop practical skills that you can take away and use immediately.
Whether your goal is to enjoy safe and confident pleasure driving, improve specific skills, or work towards assessments and progression, these lessons are designed entirely around you.
